Rubber Plant
Ficus elastica
The rubber plant is a striking, easy-to-grow indoor tree with thick, glossy leaves in deep green, burgundy, or variegated pink.
Given good light and a steady watering routine, it grows into a floor-scale statement plant within a couple of years.
Common problems
Dropping lower leaves
Usually overwatering or cold draughts. Move away from windows and let soil dry between waterings.
Dull, dusty leaves
Wipe monthly with a damp cloth so the plant can photosynthesise properly.
Leggy growth with fewer leaves
Not enough light. Move to a brighter spot; prune the top to encourage branching.

How big does a rubber plant get indoors?+
Typically 2–3 metres tall over several years. Prune the top to keep it lower.

Overwatering, cold air, or a sudden move. Stabilise its environment and check drainage.
